Terezinha Souza was born on December 7th 1988 in Fortaleza, Brazil. In 2007 she started her Bachelor studies in Biological Sciences at Federal University of Ceará, from which she graduated cum Laude in 2010. In 2011 she started her Master study in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the same institution, focusing on differential proteomic analysis and elucidation of metabolic routes involved in the response of a disease vector after exposure to a natural insecticide.
In April 2013 she started working as a PhD candidate at Toxicogenomics Department of Maastricht University, targeting the mechanisms underlying liver toxicity using transcriptomics data (microarray and RNA-seq). She defended her thesis “Bits and bytes in Toxicogenomics - In silico approaches in liver-based mechanistic toxicology” in December 2017.
As from May 2017 she is working as a bioinformatician on the EU project TransQST - Translational quantitative systems toxicology to improve the understanding of the safety of medicines -, which aims to provide improved methods and models for assessing drug safety in four major target organs (liver, kidney, cardiovascular and gastrointestinal systems).
