Terezinha Souza was born on December 7th 1988 in Fortaleza, Brazil. In 2007 she started her Bachelor studies in Biological Sciences at Federal University of Ceará, from which she graduated (with honors) in 2010. In 2011 she started her Master study in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the same institution, focusing on differential proteomic analysis and elucidation of metabolic routes involved in the response of a disease vector from Brazil after exposure to natural insecticide.
In April 2013 she started working as a PhD student at Toxicogenomics Department of Maastricht University on the project untitled “Molecular dissection of the biological and genetic pathways affected by benzo[a]pyrene (BaP)“. This project aims the elucidation of molecular networks involved in BaP-induced hepatocarcinogenesis using high throughput techniques (microarrays and RNA-seq) to identify transcriptomic alterations in hepatic cell models such as HepG2, HepaRG and primary human hepatocytes exposed to the genotoxin.
